philosophy Supernatural Concealer Review

August 24, 2008 by Suzanne

Philosophy Supernatural Concealer- Medium
I have been using Philosophy Supernatural Concealer for well over a year and I am of the opinion that it is the best concealer on the planet.  It is one of those few products that I start to get nervous if I am running low – I always keep an extra in my stash so that I won’t ever have to go without.

To me, the best thing about it is that it deposits opaque color that easily conceals without any texture at all – which means that it will conceal under-eye darkness without accentuating fine lines!

I use it in the Medium & I use the center color every day under my eyes.  It totally conceals any darkness and also slightly brightens the undereye area.  I use the color on the left (it has a slightly salmon-ly tint) to conceal any dark area on my face.  The color on the right is a perfect match to my skin color and is great for a little coverage.

I held off buying this for a long time because of the price – $25 for concealer seems like a lot to me – but I am so glad that I finally tried it.  Using it almost everyday one compact lasted almost a year, so it really turns out to be a good value.

The compact comes with a little brush, I don’t use it – I put it on with my finger.  (Use your ring finger to apply under your eyes – it is your “weakest finger” and puts the least amount of pressure on your delicate under-eye tissue.)

This concealer won a Self Magazine award for best concealer.  I never want to be without it and I recommend it – especially to women over 40 who want to conceal without accentualing fine lines and wrinkles.  It can also be used as an eyelid primer to help your eyemake up stay on longer.  Because of the amazing texture that imparts opaque color with no texture, it is good for dry skin (doesn’t dry out), oily skin (doesn’t get greasy)

Mirenesse Power Touch Beauty Pen vs. YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter

Looking for a less expensive alternative to YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter? You may want to consider Mirenesse Power Touch Beauty Pen. They look virtually identical. I have used both products and find them very similiar. The only difference that I noticed is that the Mirenesse Pen is much more concentrated, making it more difficult to use over makeup, but more effective under makeup.

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter

For ultimate skin radiance, try Yves Saint Laurent’s luxurious Touche Eclat. It’s formulated with special light-reflecting ingredients to help banish shadows and dark circles while softening the look of lines. Smoothes flawlessly over makeup or bare skin. The #1 shade works well with light to medium complexions. The #3 Light Peach shade matches up with darker complexions. Price $37.

Mirenesse Power Touch Beauty Pen

Mirenesse Power Touch Beauty Pen

Wherever you have flaws or fine lines you’d like to conceal, use our Mirenesse Power Touch Beauty Pen to give you a new, flawless look and identity. You can conveniently apply this cosmetic line smoother and luminizing concealer directly from the brush tip of the pen to areas that require concealing and highlighting, such as under the eyes, cheekbones, and the bow at the top of the lips. Our .1 oz. Power Touch Line Smoother and Concealer from Mirenesse is designed to be applied over your foundation. Price $25 – (but much cheaper if purchased in a kit, like Mirenesse Megalash Kit only $28 for the pen, the famous mascara and a heated eyelash curler!)

How to Apply New Smoky Eye

October 8, 2006 by Suzanne

How to Apply The “New” Smoky Eye

The traditional smoky eye makeup look, which uses black and intense grays, has been a favorite for evening wear for a while. The “new” smoky eye is a softer look with less intense colors and can be used in the daytime as well. It has the same effect of dramatically accentuating the eyes.

You can use any color palette for your smoky eye look. You need three eye shadows that are the same color family so the shadow will gradually lessen in intensity. Browns and grays can be used, but so can purples or greens. Pick the color that looks best on you.

How to apply smoky eye makeup:

Step 1 – Prep the eyelid

The most important factor in the smoky eye look is the flawless blending of all the colors. Your eyelid should be oil free and smooth. You can apply a coat of powder, foundation, concealer, makeup primer or an eyelid primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Step 2 – Apply eyeliner

Place eye liner around your upper and lower lids at the lash. Eyeliner can make your eyes look smaller. If you have small eyes already, you can line the outer two-thirds only.

Step 3 – Apply the lightest eye shadow shade

Using a brush (it is much easier to blend with a brush instead of a sponge applicator), place the lightest color over the entire eye lid. You can also place a small amount on the inner corner of your eye, in a > around your tear duct. This will brighten the eyes.

Step 4 – Apply the Medium Color

Place your medium color from the lash line to just above the crease and blend well. If you have flat eyes with no discernable crease, feel for the top of your eyeball and stop there.

Step 5 – Apply the Darkest Color

Use the darkest color at the lash line, gradually fading up to the crease. Blend well with the medium color. It should softly fade from dark to light. Next apply the darkest color over the eyeliner, using it to smudge the line. You may want to try the medium color on the bottom line instead of the darkest color. You can use a Q-tip to smudge further.

Step 6 – Apply Several Coats of Mascara

No eye drama is complete with mascara!

Step 7 – Finish Your Look

You want all of the emphasis on your eyes; finish your look with soft or neutral lips and cheeks. I love a nude or soft pink lip gloss and a soft color for blush.

Drugstore Find of the Week CoverToxTen50

Drugstore Find of the Week – CoverToxTen50 Wrinkle Therapy Concealer by Physician’s Formula

Is anything more thrilling to the beauty obsessed than a great score at the drugstore? Not in my book!

I have been looking everywhere for a good under eye concealer & brightener.

I even tried the $36 Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. The Touche Eclat is reported to be one of the world’s greatest selling cosmetic products. It is a highlighter, not a concealer, but I liked it and was using it everyday.

I kept reading raves about Physician’s Formula new Covertox. I found it at my local Walgreen’s for 40% off (the total was less than $5.50, the regular price is $8.95). Now my Touche Eclat is sitting in my drawer and I find myself reaching for the Covertox everyday. It brightens the eye area nicely, but without the obvious lightening you get from the Touche Eclat (and others).

What I love the best is that it doesn’t settle in the fine lines. It has a brush applicator, but I put a drop on my ring finger and gently pat it on. I finish it off with a very light brushing of my Bare Escentuals “Well Rested”. I use the flawless application brush – the kabuki and baby buki brushes deposit too much for me.

Physician’s Formula calls this great little marvel “CoverToxTen50 Wrinkle Therapy Concealer” and they claim a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and a reduction in dark circles over time. If you have dark circle “issues”, try the soft yellow color to hide them. The Vitamin C and GABA will supposedly lighten them over time.

In addition to the soft yellow, other color choices are Fair Light, Natural Light and Medium Beige. I have “medium” skin color and I am using the Natural Light. I plan to try the Medium Beige at the next 40% off sale.
